In 1891, the city of Chandler was named after the veterinarian Dr. A. J. Chandler. He purchased from the federal government a piece of desert South of Mesa in the Salt River Valley – in what was then the Arizona Territory. Dr. Chandler would then help find the city of Mesa (what a go getter!)
