One of the Best Kept Secrets in Arizona

Rittenhouse was the Original name for the city of Queen Creek. People that wanted to hitch a ride to Phoenix had to wave down a train at the Rittenhouse railroad spur. As the community grew, and the use of the railroad stop diminished, the community changed its name and took on the name Queen Creek.

Queen Creek is part of land annexation from Apache Junction. That is how the city of Queen Creek came to be!

Queen Creek was built by a brave man willing to risk it all to help others. Leo Ellsworth is his name and he was a Mesa Bank employee. He took advantage of a situation where Charles Rittenhouse, a farmer and small grocery store owner in Queen Creek, was struggling financially. Leo was able to free up more capital for the city of Rittenhouse (soon to be Queen Creek) and would go on to help build much of Queen Creek’s roads.
